Insider Packing Hacks
Nesting Strength Technique
Nest smaller packed boxes inside larger ones to maximize space and keep items organized. This works great for desk supplies, kitchen gadgets, and miscellaneous knick-knacks.
Coffee Ground Deodorizer Sock
Fill a clean sock or cloth bag with 1-2 cups of fresh coffee grounds. Tie it securely and place inside the empty, clean refrigerator to absorb odors during transport.
TV/Monitor Packing Hack
Wrap the TV securely with packing blankets, then place it in a mirror carton (or two nested together for extra protection). Seal the carton(s) with tape.
Hack Your Own Vacuum Space Bags
Use garbage bags and a vacuum cleaner to compress bulky items like pillows and winter coats. Place items in a garbage bag, insert vacuum hose, seal tightly around it, and vacuum out the air.
Photograph Box Contents
Take pictures of box contents before sealing them. Give the photo and box the same name (e.g., “Kitchen Box #5”) for easy reference later.
Wrap Utensil Trays in Plastic Wrap
Keep drawer organizers intact by wrapping them tightly in plastic wrap. This preserves the organization and makes unpacking a breeze.
Use Liquor Store Boxes for Shoes
These boxes often have dividers, making them perfect for organizing and protecting shoes during the move.
Utilize Pots and Laundry Baskets
Pack small kitchen items inside large pots. Use laundry baskets for essential appliances you’ll need right away in your new home.
Color-Code Boxes by Room
Use colored stickers to quickly identify which room each box belongs in, saving time during unloading.
Pack Plates Vertically
Stack plates vertically like records to reduce the risk of breakage. Use foam pouches or bubble wrap for extra protection.
